The Wytches - 'All Your Happy Life'

6/10

When Brighton band The Wytches released their debut album 'Annabel Dream Reader' back in 2014, we could tell that these guys would become something special. Their progressive grunge-psych sound was something we had never heard before, and while it wasn't the huge commercial success it deserved to be, the band have now returned with their sophomore full-length, which aims to reinforce their unique direction in music.

While this album doesn't have the instant hit-factor its predecessor was wielding, 'All Your Happy Life' mainly sits as a record that aims to explore the band's own songwriting capabilities. There are far more tranquil moments on this album, and these serve as not only as a great break from their usual sound, but showcases their range throughout. Spreading their creative wings, so to speak, and doing so with great aplomb.

In all, 'All Your Happy Life' has become a great companion piece to 'Annabel Dream Reader' without trying to overshadow its legacy. It may not be the all-round cohesive release they may have been looking for but certainly packs a punch when it wants.
